Romans 1-3

1. According to Paul, what moral and spiritual purpose is fulfilled by creation, conscience and the Law? (Romans 1:18--3:20)

Paul argues in Romans 1-3 that creation, conscience and the the Law all reveal God's glory so that people are "without excuse" (Romans 1:20; 2:1; 3:9) when God judges them. Every human being will stand guilty before God. Those who had the light of creation chose to worshiop the creation rather than the Creator. Those who had the light of conscience chose to violate their conscience. Those who had the light of the Law chose not to keep the Law. Thus, one moral and spiritual purpose for creation, conscience and the law was to show just how sinful human beings are and their absolute need for God's grace.
